About:

Jerry Brown

Jerry was born out of the American struggle for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. (His parents in their pursuit of happiness took liberty with each other and gave him life.)

He grew up on the bread that builds strong bodies 12 ways, Howdy Doody, hula hoops, Superman, slinkies, Gene Autry and the Lone Ranger, Mickey Mantle and the New York Yankees, '57 Chevy's and '64 Mustangs, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Stones, Catcher in the Rye, Catch 22, Blow Up, Bonnie & Clyde, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, truth, justice and the American way.

Brown served his country by going to college and learning how to produce and consume goods. He tried writing the great American novel but since he was unable to get past the great American first sentence, he got into advertising and put his college education to work by imploring others to produce and consume goods. He thrived in Seattle and on Madison Avenue as a writer/producer and his work appeared in the One Show (Silver Medal), New York Art Directors, CA, Clios, IBA's and Addy's among others.

But...(there is always a but.) As Degas said, "the real traveler is the man who never arrives." More in his element standing next to a camera than sitting in a office with a tie around his neck, Brown bit the hand that held the hoop and started directing.

He has done work for such blue chip brands as AOL, Band Aids, Callaway Golf, Coca-Cola, Charbroil, Chrysler-Jeep, Hewlett Packard, Merck, Microsoft, Miller Beer, Philips, Red Lobster, SBC, The Oakland A's, and The Seattle Mariners.

When he's not directing, he shoots stills and still writes. His passion: the wild and the western. His ethos: to make good the use of shadow and light. His approach: the more I practice the luckier I get.

"I write and take pictures because I cannot not. For me, they are a celebration of, a prayer for, and a testament to life."

Jerry's show, Crazy 'bout Horses, has been exhibited by galleries in Portland, Oregon and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

He often wonders that if it all started with The Big Bang, what was there before that? This he is sure of: he is a product of animated stardust and still traveling.

“Let the beautiful we love be what we do.” Rumi

I’m drawn to the beautiful. Directing for me is really an act of exploration into the knowing unknown. I’m guided by its mystery and rewarded by its process.

“One foot in the sand bears the shape of a thousand granules.” --unknown

Without the efforts of many I am nothing. Their contribution to the process awakens the director’s voice. For me collaboration is a fundamental tool to birthing an idea.

“Saying the things you do not have to say, weakens the talk.” --unknown

I do my best work by creating pictures. Pictures that invoke stories. Pictures that evoke feelings. Pictures that shape the consciense. Too much talk cheapens the moment. Too little talk dulls the mind. Through the balance of words and pictures the true meaning of the idea is borne.

And, most of all I do what I do for the fun of it!
